Hi Michele
I'm researching the BAGDONAVICIUS family that also came out on the Wooster Victory, but they came to Sydney in July 1949.
I am also looking for information on the ship and it's Jul journey.
I thought if you have not already done you may wish to check http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html, as I have found almost all of the BAGDONAVICIUS immigration documents this way, including photos.
Good luck with your search!

Check out http://dpcamps.org/dpcampsGermanyFr.html.
Info on Fulda and the Fulda State Archives there. Good site for displaced persons info. Our family was at the Hanau camp.

Hi Michele, my mum was on the Wooster Victory ship to Australia in 1949. Maiden name was Mietkiewicz, Teresa. I have her boarding ticket but cannot find any trace of her. Any suggestions? Or any help finding my family in Poland would be greatly appreciated. Sandra ![]()

Sandra, Record Search at the National Archives shows the following file on your mother. It will contain her selection documents:
Title MIETKIEWICZ Teresa born 13 April 1927
Series number A11912
Control symbol 351
Contents date range 1949 - 1949
Access status Not yet examined
Location Canberra
Barcode 4782558
Send this information in an e-mail to <ref@naa.gov.au>, asking them to examine the file with a view to public access and to e-mail you back with a quote for photocopying if they decide to make the file available (which they will do, but they have these formalities).
Good luck with finding your family in Poland. Have you Googled for <Genealogy Poland> yet? You should find a wealth of possibilities!

Thanks for drawing attention to this site, Maie. When I updated other Fifth Fleet pages recently, I put in a lot of links to the Immigrantships.net site on the Ships of the Fifth Fleet table.
Cheers, Ann

Hi
I am after passager list for the SS Wooster Victory 15th march 1949- Olchowicz Borys .
I have looked at the list on the immagrant ships site but they only list about 5 people.
He is on the nna.gov.au list and that is where I have got the dates from. He ia my Oma's Brother I know he changed ther name when they were here to Oliver because he did not like the wicz or (witch) part of the name I have been told. The name is also spelt differantly on my Oma's immigration papers when she came over in1961 whih my Opa & 5 children.
I think he came over with his mother at the same time out of Germany from the camps my Oma's sister Luba decided to go back to the ukraine to meet the sweet heart but the never heard from her again.
I don't know much to much about Oma's side of the family it has allway been a bit of a mystery for what reasons I'm not sure. they did leave I think her father left Poland years earlier not sure on how much of the family moved with them but I have the feeling they had to leave.
If any could help with some information it would be wonderful.
Thankyou
Julie

Dear Julie
Having only five passengers listed on the Immigrant Ships site is the result, I think, of a particular transcriber noting only those people who left the vessels in Fremantle. If you have looked at the naa.gov.au lists, then you must have some idea of how to get around that site. I suggest that you search for <Wooster Victory>. Hit the Refine this Search button next to the number of Items found (not Series). In the new window, search for <Nominal Roll>. That's what the Department of Immigration called the passenger lists.
Doing what I have just suggested gave a list of 22 files. Scanning through the 22 items, I found that one was "SS Wooster Victory - ex Naples 13 February 1949 [includes Nominal Roll]". That looks like the voyage that brought your great-uncle and maybe your grandmother's mother.
As it happens, somebody has requested already that this file be digitised. You can read through it on a computer with an Internet connection. Let us know if you find your relatives!
The step after that will be to find their selection, aliens registration and maybe citizenship papers in the National Archives.
Best wishes,
Ann Tündern-Smith

Chris,
Welcome to the Fifth Fleet and have a read of the messages in the FAQ forum if you have not done so already. They will tell you how to start getting hold of copies of the passenger list and your father's official documents.
Enjoy your research,
Ann

Hi Stephen
I was able to get information from the National Archives of Australia in Canberra. A fee is charged to obtain this information eg migration papers and a passenger list.
To get photos of the Wooster Victory ship try web site images.wooster and istrianet.org.
Best of luck
Chris
